The Beco Butterfly looks almost like the 4th generation Beco, however it's structure has been improved to be more sophisticated and safer to use! The base of the shoulder strap is not attached directly to the body of the carrier, but to an inside panel which is attached to the waist belt. The straps are fully adjustable. They have a special easy-to-release tension lock and the buckles are at the top. One of the most innovative features of this model is the built-in infant insert. This enables even the smallest infants to ride in an ergonomic and comfortable position in the carrier. The baby can sit higher, thus enjoying the view. Since the insert base is narrower than the carrier base, infants can comfortably spread their legs while maintaining the recommended position of knees higher than the bottom. The shoulder straps have been fully redesigned. They are ergonomically shaped to better adapt to the wearer's body and padded with 0.75" foam for ultimate comfort. The chest strap is no independent from the shoulder straps (can't lose it!), but instead is connected to the shoulder straps and slides along their length. The inside panel on the Butterfly brings a major safety advantage. The biggest is that the baby can no longer fall or slip out of the carrier when the waist belt buckle opens. It also means a very safe back carry with babies as young as 3 months old (or when neck/head control is aquired). The infant could be first in the the front carry and then simply switched to the wearers back, much like a backpack. The baby can also be passed from one wearer to another without being removed from the carrier! The new structure of the carrier enables the wearer to place the baby in the carrier first and then put it on. However, the carrier may be put on first and then the baby, whichever is preferred! The adjustable buckles on the top of the body of the carrier enable easy nursing access! The Butterfly has a removable head rest and a special place in the waist belt to store it. - new special buckles connecting the top of the body with shoulder straps. These buckles have not been integrated on any other baby carrier to our knowledge. It is a new design by Duraflex developed for Police Department. These buckles can be open with TWO HANDS only. They still use the tension as means for webbing length adjustment, but instead of 1 bar, there are 2 bars, which makes it less prone to accidental tension release.
While these buckles will add to product safety, they will take away the ease of use.
This would be similar to how Butterfly is safer due to existence of inside panel, but at the same time more complex to use.
The current buckles are very safe, but require some simple attention. The new buckles do not require as much attention, but take longer to adjust and open.
